New camp structure

May 18th, 2012

Hello everyone,

This year camp is taking on a new structure. We have hired an awesome team to work all five weeks. They have been meeting through out the year to prepare for a wonderful summer at camp. We will post a little more on your TEAM in a bit.

Supervisors have not dissapeared, they still play a vital part in camp. We welcome all teens 15+ to come give a week or two of there summer to share their love of camp and Jesus with the kids/ youth that will attend. Being a supervisor is great fun. You are the light of Christ to the young ones and they look up to you.

We have also changed our camp ages to hopefully make it more enjoyable for everyone. In shrinking the age spam we are hoping to talor games and treachings to suit all ages. This has also given us more space to except more campers. Bring your brothers and sisters, your cousins, your friends and neighbors.

We are open to volunteer parents as well. If your little one would like to go to camp and your not quite ready to let them go, feel free to offer your services and help us out in the kitchen or with dorm supervision, all while being close to your little.

The Love at Camp Morice

May 18th, 2012

It’s the time of year when many people are fretting about summer plans. People are busy planning their time off, making sure that they have the correct week off so they are able to go to that coveted exotic destination. Maybe Hawaii or Mexico, or even Europe. People are busy making plans to see friends or extended family on long weekends. There are camping trips to organize, fishing trips or trips to who knows where. I go through that too. But there’s one date that I always look for before anything else in my summer gets planned. One date that gets put into the summer calendar before all the other ones. And that is the date for Camp Morice.

I have been coming up to Camp Morice every summer since 2005, when Danny Brock invited me to come with him and his family. He had invited me since 2002, but 2005 was the first year that I finally decided to go. It was then that I saw and experienced for myself the special love that Camp Morice has. It is a love that permeates every aspect of Camp, from the directors and supervisors to the cooks and maintenance volunteers all the way down to the cabins, the sand on the beach and the grass on the field. Everything about Camp Morice is about love. The camp was built in love, and it exists because of love. This love that is at Camp Morice is what makes it such a special place. It is a love that sets people free to be themselves and be accepted for who they are. It is a love that brings people in touch with something deeper than can be seen with the eyes or experienced in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is a love that awakens something within me that should never have been allowed to fall asleep. It is the same love that Jesus has for every single human being, created in His image, called to become our true selves. This love that exists at Camp Morice is what draws me back to Camp every year, because I need to feel that love.

It is sometimes difficult in my daily struggles, my daily failings to live up to my desires for my life, to know that God loves me. But He does. It is sometimes difficult to really know that He loves me, in my heart. I may know in my head that He loves me, but it can be difficult to really know deep down that even if I fail, even if I try so many times and still fail, He still loves me. Camp Morice is a special place because people can feel the love of Jesus. They may not even realize that it is Jesus that is the source of that love. But this love is in everything at Camp Morice, and it is this love that keeps drawing me back to Camp Morice every year. I hope to see you at Camp Morice teen camp 2012, so that you can feel and also know this love for yourself.

- Jeremy Cote

Imagine A Mission So Impossible

December 17th, 2010

He crawls through the snow in the dark of night. His breathing is shallow in hopes that no one will spot him. He avoids the search lights as best he can, but he still hasn’t mastered the art of crawling through foot after foot of snow without making loud crunching sounds. Suddenly a bright light flashes over him and he hears an exclamation ring out through the forest, “Oh, Attila! Not again!” Meanwhile, struggling to make it back to the safety of Friendship cabin, Jackie pulls herself through the mounds of snow with the last bit of her strength, searching for the cleared path that would relieve her exhaustion. But while the Victoria kids are picked off one by one from exhaustion and the inability to adapt to their new environment, the Prince George kids are nestled under blankets of snow waiting for their chance to make a run for it. To reach the tower and claim victory. A victory relished by few. It’s a mission so impossible that not more than 5 people have ever achieved it. And no one has completed this mission in the snow. Are you going to be the one to win? Will you do what it takes? Bury yourself under the snow, sitting, silently for the snipers to pass so you can make your glorifying run? Come to snow camp and find out!

Clear Winter Nights

December 16th, 2010

On December 31st 2008 around 6:15pm the Moon and Venus lined up right over top of Friendship cabin. It was one of the clearest winter nights I’ve ever seen out there.

The Moon and Venus, lined up over Friendship cabin.

Adam brought his telescope, so we aimed it at the moon to take a look.  Venus is so reflective that it’s almost a mirror, so looking at Venus is more like looking at a reflection of the sun.

Looking at the moon up close with Adam's telescope.

It’ll Make A Man Outta You

December 13th, 2010

Camp Morice is a place for spontaneity. It’s a place where you can find campers passing the time by singing the Beatles, where impromptu “practice” dances break out, and where Disney songs can and will be sung from balconies. At Camp, you need to watch how you treat the resident Hobbits, or you might just wake up with nothing but swim shorts to your name, and you had better brush up on your Electric and Cha Cha Slides if you want to keep up. It’s a place where planned events are put on hold just so everyone can go outside and watch yet another breathtaking sunset – because no matter how many you see, each one is even more beautiful. At Camp Morice, sometimes there is no answer to the big question: “What now?” But even if you don’t know what’s coming next, there’s no doubt that it will end with amazing, spur-of-the-moment memories and lasting friends to share them with.

Never Has Tackle Football Been So Intense

December 13th, 2010

Tackle football in the snow is one of the highlights of snow camp. Pretty much everyone gets involved. Imagine tromping through the shin-high snow, running with all your might, trying to stay away from the hoard of campers chasing you…looking for that teammate to pass to and then being thrown down to the ground into a foot of fluffy snow as your opponent tackles you. Never has tackle football been so intense…and never have the tackles been so forgiving.

You're Going Down!

I'm Open!

I'm Open!

I'll never give up!

I'll never give up!

Donny going for the long shot.

Take down!

Take down!

Snow Covered

Being covered in snow has never been so fun.

Running Hard

Running thin the snow in your snowsuit is quite the workout!
